MyAgeingTM Postgraduate Studies Programs

Gerontology examines the process of ageing in individuals and populations.  At MyAgeingTM, we offering Master of Science (MSc.) and Doctor Philosophy (Ph.D).  Both programs require students to submit a thesis and the fields of study are:

Social Gerontology

  • Social gerontology focuses on the social, economic and cultural aspects of aging that affect the well-being of older persons. It is based on a multidisciplinary approach in understanding the psycho-social processes of growing older and the socio-economic impact of ageing on olders persons, family and the society.
  • Research and development in this field contribute towards social policies and programs in managing ageing population including demography, economic and financial aspects of ageing, family and intergenerational relationships, social support, long-term care, lifelong learning and others.

 

Medical Gerontology

  • Medical gerontology focuses on research in age-related illness and disability research and development in this field are aimed at improving knowledge in screening and diagnosis as well as developing effective intervention treatment and care for age related disorders such as stroke, cognitive impairment and dementia, falls, bone health and frailty. Nutrition and exercise techniques that work well for older persons are emphasized in preventive treatment and rehabilitation for successful ageing.

 

Gerontechnology

  • Gerontechnology is an interdisciplinary academic and professional field combining gerontology and technology. Research and development in this field is aimed at understanding the aspects of design in technology and environment that enable independent living and social participation of older person in good health, comfort and safety.
  • The focus of research is on matching technology and built environment in aspects of health, housing, mobility, communication, work, leisure and recreation of older people. Research outputs can contribute in design guidelines to prevent age-related functional decline, enhance performance, compensate declining capabilities and assist caregivers of older people.

 

Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) Postgraduate Studies Programme Criteria

  • The minimum credit requirement for graduation is 9 credit hours
  • Enrolment in University’s postgraduate courses – Seminar Research Proposal (SPS6903) Ph.D Thesis (SPS6999) is compulsory
  • Students are required to pass Comprehensive Examination, which should be taken only after completion of all coursework with in four (4) semesters of cumulative enrolment.
  • Thesis will be examined and viva voce will be conducted in the final semester to determine the students competency in the field of study

 

Master Science (MS.c) Postgraduate Studies Programme Criteria

  • The minimum credit requirement for graduation is 6 credit hours
  • Enrolment in University’s postgraduate courses – Seminar Research Proposal (SPS5903) and Ms.c Thesis (SPS5999) is compulsory
  • Thesis will be examined and viva voce will be conducted in the final semester to determine the student’s competency in the field of study
